The Hawks were undefeated at home until they lost to Orlando last week. They’ve already had a seven game winning streak this season but lost three of the last four taking some of the shine off the team. The Hawks are hoping to get back on track against the Raptors tonight.
The Raptors have four back-to-backs this month with most of the games being on the road. This month could be a disaster for the Raps unless they find some way to bring some sustained energy away from home where they usually collapse in the second half. The coaching staff have also been making some noise about changes. We’ll see if they have anything up their sleeve to get the team going.

When is it going to stop?
And why does the league’s least athletic team have the league’s most unfair schedule?
I’m no defensive expert, but somebody is not clicking on the defensive rotations, and I don’t know who it is. Jose always gets blown by, but that’s part of the plan, defensively. I don’t know why the system doesn’t work when the starters are on the floor. I think its a very fragile system because it just takes a little mistake by someone to give the opposite team a clean path to the rim, and I don’t know if someone is making more mistakes than others, but It looks like CB4 doesn’t know how to get through to Andrea that they need him defensively. I don’t know if Andrea is the problem, though. Maybe just guys thinking that it is, is the problem.
I don’t really get the rotations, but maybe they should try to play man-to-man at least the first 10 seconds of the shot clock, then rotate.
All the opposing teams do is set screens and see what happens with mismatches, and they have 20 seconds to find a good look. With all the rotating, there always ends up being a good look. And when the defense tries to recover and contest, all the other team has to do is get on the glass for an uncontested rebound because of everybody rotating away from the paint.
And one thing I don’t like is when the player is clearly too far from his man, yet tries to contest the shot by jumping (or clapping like calderon sometimes). It give rhythm to the shooter and points him to the direction of the rim that the defender has located in his mind. The opposing teams miss more wide open shots when they’re not contested than when they are contested like it was a practice drill or something.
Just prepare yourself for the rebound, or stare at one of the shooter’s wide open team mates, but don’t give him rhythm by timing your jump to his..
Turkoglu understands that, he rarely jumps and, most of all, he tries to distort the player’s environment, not by desperately trying to put a hand in his face (he’s no Shane Battier) but by contesting in a way the shooter doesn’t expect. Even if it ends up being a better look technically, it’s a lower percentage make.
