The Raptors are in Philadelphia tonight to take on the 10-26 76ers in the first of four meetings. Toronto has played only three games so far against teams in the Atlantic division, and two of those games were against Boston. With games still to come against the Knicks and Nets as well as the Sixers, the Raps have an opportunity to pad their win total. That said, Toronto has shown a knack for dropping games they were expected to win. With last week’s debacle in Boston still fresh in their minds, let’s see if they can take care of business against the Sixers.

The Raptors aren’t a very good road team and that makes their chances of stopping the Magic from sweeping the season series against the Raptors very slim. The Raps do have a few things going in their favour tonight. First is the expected return of Jose and Hedo to the lineup. Jose will probably be coming off the bench giving the second unit a much needed facilitator on offense. Orlando played last night in Indiana so they should be feeling the effects of playing the second game of a back to back while the Raptors are well rested. Let’s hope Toronto can get this game just in case they meet the Magic in the playoffs.

The Toronto Raptors will begin 2010 with back to back games against two of the better teams in the NBA. Fortunately for the Raptors, many of the Celtics’ starters are nursing injuries and are doubtful to play tonight. If they manage to win tonight, they’ll have a healthy Spurs squad waiting for them when they return home tomorrow. A good test to start the year and see how much the team has improved.

The Raptors are in Detroit tonight for the first of a home-and-home series against the Pistons. The second game will be played on the 27th. The Pistons are having a rough time of it lately with five straight losses. They’re playing without the services of Rip Hamilton, Ben Gordon and Tayshaun Prince. Whenever a team loses players of that calibre for any extended period of time, the losing is understandable.

Hamilton and Prince didn’t play on November 4 either when the Raptors beat the Pistons. The Raps will have to guard against overconfidence if they hope to turn their season around in time. Jose Calderon will not play tonight. There isn’t a return date for him but it’ll probably be a race to see who gets back first, Jose or Reggie Evans.
