Tonight’s game against the Miami Heat is shaping up to be the biggest of the season. Everyone around the Raptors is talking about possibly moving up in the standings and getting to that fifth spot. The Raptors and the Heat have each won a game against each other and they’ll play once more on March 28. Getting a tie breaker against the Heat is a priority since it looks like the battle for fifth is going to be a season-long fight.

DeMar DeRozan injured his ankle in practice yesterday and he’ll probably be out tonight. Last thing the Raptors need is for the rook to go up against Wade and not be 100%. Looks like it’ll either be Wright or Weems filling in.

They may not be the Lakers of old with Magic, Worthy and Kareem but Kobe’s Lakers are still the prime attraction in the NBA. Today’s game is the third of eight road games for L.A, the longest stretch of road games this season. Kobe Bryant is putting up over 28ppg and he’s not letting a broken finger slow him down. He’s still getting his shots up which aren’t falling at their usual pace but the Lakers continue to play well thanks to contributions from Gasol and Bynum.

Toronto is hoping Andrea’s back is feeling better after sitting out the last game. They’re going to need him to play well tonight if the Raps are going to have any chance of slowing down the Lakers’ talented frontcourt. The struggles of Hedo Turkoglu are well documented. He’s shooting a career low 40.5% from the field and we’re seeing him sputter late in games due to fatigue. It’s too early to panic and I think sooner or later, the extra work he’s putting in will yield results on the floor.

The Bucks have a chance to sweep the season series against the Raptors tonight at the ACC. A prospect looking more likely with the absence of Andrea Bargnani who’s out with a sore back. If the Raps hope to avoid the sweep, they’ll need Hedo to step up and play better. He’s been the target of many among the press looking for answers for his poor play. If he helps the Raptors beat the Bucks, he’ll get a reprieve until the next game.

The Dallas Mavericks are one of the better road teams in the NBA with a 13-6 record away from home. The Raptors are making strides in becoming a better road team but they’re at home today to try and get another win against a team in the upper echelon of the league. There are a couple of interesting side stories in today’s matchup. One is the return of Shawn Marion who many thought would be wearing a Raptors jersey this year. But all eyes will probably be on Dirk Nowitzki and Andrea Bargnani. Andrea is playing some of his best basketball especially on the defensive side and he’ll need to be at his best today if the Raptors are going to have a chance against the Mavs.
