Raps come home to face healthy T-Wolves

Minnesota Timberwolves Toronto Raptors

The Timberwolves are 1-1 since the return of Kevin Love from a broken left hand. He put up double-doubles in both games and the T-Wolves are showing signs of improvement from the 1-15 start to the season. With both Love and Jefferson in the front-court, the team is looking to run more often and they’ll get plenty of opportunities to do so tonight if the Raptor defence doesn’t show up.

This a game the Raps could easily lose if they look past the Wolves to the Bucks game tomorrow. The team has been talking about building some consistency to go along with their new-found communication skills. It’ll be tough to do if Bosh and Bargnani don’t play. Chris is battling a cold and Andrea is day-to-day with a sore ankle.

Mediocre Wizards take on mediocre Raptors

Washington Wizards Toronto Raptors

If there’s a more disappointing team in the East than the Raptors, it would have to be the Washington Wizards. Most analysts predicted the Wiz would be a top five team in the East if they remained healthy. Things have turned out very differently with stories of strife within the locker room and questions about Arenas. Gilbert put up some great numbers to start the season but he’s coming off games with stat lines of 9pts, 5asts, 2rbs and 6pts, 6asts, 2rbs. Let’s hope the duo of Calderon and Jack is not the cure for what’s ailing Arenas.

The Raptors play four games in five nights this week, the next three on the road. If they play with their usual intensity for road games and for the tail end of back to back games, they could find themselves too far behind the pack to make a push for the playoffs when the schedule becomes more favourable.

Raps hoping to slow down Suns

Boston Celtics Toronto Raptors

The Phoenix Suns have won three straight while putting up an average of 121ppg over that stretch. And the player most responsible for the Suns early success is Steve Nash who is on a mission this year. He’s putting up 16ppg and 12ast while shooting 53%, similar stats to his MVP years. Maybe the adulation he’ll receive in Toronto this afternoon will slow him down.

Calderon, Jack and Ford together again

Indiana Pacers Toronto Raptors

The Pacers arrive in Toronto riding a three game losing streak. Word out of Indiana is that there are going to be changes to the starting lineup. They were playing small ball with Granger at PF but that’s not going to be the case tonight. Jeff Foster and Troy Murphy will be starting to check Bosh and Bargnani. I don’t see Foster getting many minutes tonight.

It looks like T.J Ford has worn out his welcome in Indiana with fans looking to replace him with backup PG Earl Watson. Yes, that Earl Watson who has never averaged more than 30mpg in his previous eight years in the league. This follows a familiar pattern for Ford who was replaced in Milwaukee by Mo Williams, Calderon in Toronto, Jarret Jack last year and now likely Earl Watson. I still believe T.J is the most talented of the aforementioned group, it’s too bad he can’t get his head on straight.
