Raptors begin final stretch in Miami

Toronto Raptors Miami Heat

The Raptors and Heat last met on January 27 and with the win, the Raptors overtook the Heat for fifth in the conference. On their way out of town, a Raptor fan working at the airport taunted one of the Heat players about losing the fifth seed and the player responded by saying something to the effect of “we’ll get it back”. After falling to as low as the ninth seed, the Heat are playing some of the best basketball of the season and have climbed to sixth and with a win over the Bucks, they’re only one game away from making good on the promise they made on their way out of Toronto in January.

The Raptors meanwhile are in the eighth spot three games behind the Heat but only a game and half ahead of the Bulls. As Paul and Eric said in their VLOG, this game is more about staying ahead of the improving Bulls rather than catching the Heat again.

Raps hope to take advantage of struggling Nuggets

Denver Nuggets Toronto Raptors

Another Western Conference powerhouse is in Toronto tonight to take on the Raptors. The Denver Nuggets are sitting atop the Northwest Division tied with Utah and Dallas for second in the conference. Everyone expects them to go deep into the playoffs but they’ll need to get in the right mindset before that becomes a reality. The Nuggets have lost three straight games, all to Eastern Conference opponents giving the Raptors some hope tonight to extend that streak to four. For Toronto, this is the last home game before they go on the road for a pivotal back-to-back set against the Heat and the Bobcats. A win tonight can go a long way in building some much needed confidence before heading out on the road.

Calderon and Jack look to slow down Deron

Utah Jazz Toronto Raptors

If there was any doubt about Deron Williams being one of the best point guards in the league, he has put them to rest this year. Williams is averaging 10.3 assists a game, trailing only Nash and Paul by 0.8 asts/game. Even more impressive is the fact that he has the Jazz chasing the Denver Nuggets for first place in the Northwest division. Utah is only a game behind Denver and Dallas and a game ahead of sixth place Phoenix. The Jazz are looking to continue their climb up the standings unlike last year where a late season collapse ensured a first round matchup against the eventual NBA champions. They begin a three game road trip tonight against the Raptors followed by Indiana and Washington. While the Jazz are 46-25 on the season, they play .500 ball on the road. The Raptors will have to bring energy from the start if they hope to make the Jazz look to the Pacers for their next road win.
